Purse Theft in Weber County Leads to Felony Charges in Layton

Rodney Briggs, 25 years of age, has been charged with three third degree felony charges stemming from an incident that started in South Ogden and ended in Layton.

Layton police officers got involved after receiving a call from a local check cashing business. The business reported suspicious activity and believed a crime was being committed. Officers arrived to find Rodney Briggs in the process of leaving. During the investigation, officers realized that Briggs was involved in a possible strong-armed robbery that had occurred earlier in the day in South Ogden.

The South Ogden Police Department investigated the crimes in their jurisdiction. Layton Police have charged Briggs with the following:

  • Possession of a Forged Document- third degree felony
  • Unlawful Acquisition of a Financial Card- third degree felony
  • Unlawful Use of a Financial Card- third degree felony

The victim of the theft in South Ogden is also the same victim of the crimes here in Layton.
