Layton - February 27, 2006

On Monday, February 27, 2006 at 4:00 PM, Layton City Fire Department was dispatched to 1241 N. Nayon Street on a report of an apartment fire. The first arriving units saw heavy black smoke coming from the front door of the two-story apartment. There was one person in the apartment at the time the fire occurred. The occupant tried to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher but was unsuccessful. At that point, the fire department was called.

Fire department personnel had problems locating the fire until a thermal imaging camera (TIC) was used. The TIC is able to see through the smoke. Once the fire was located the fire was quickly put out. Fire damage was contained to the kitchen with heavy smoke damage to the rest of the apartment. The adjacent apartment had minor smoke damage. Estimated loss is between $35,000 and $50,000.

Red Cross was called to assist with the occupants as they were displaced because of the fire.
