Police Records

Copies of police reports, including accident reports, may be requested from the Records Division. In order to process a request, you will be asked to provide the following information: Your identity, case number (if known), address of occurrence, date of occurrence, parties involved and type of report. Requests may be started online by filling out an Online Record Request Form or they may be made in person at the Records Division, Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding legal holidays. Requests received via mail will also only be considered if the signature on the request is notarized. Valid government issued photo ID or notarization of identity is required in order for records to be released, regardless of the method used to request the record.

$15.00 Photos, audio, or video recordings (each additional hour of preparation and redaction time)

Most of the records maintained by the Police Department are classified as private, protected or controlled, in accordance with the Government Records Access and Management Act and as such are only released to individuals meeting certain criteria. At the time a request is received, careful consideration will be given to ensure all federal, state and local laws are abided by.

Criminal History Check

If you are a resident of Layton City you may request a copy of your own Utah criminal history between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays. A $15.00 fee will be assessed at the time of application and you must bring valid state or federal government issued photo ID. You may only request a copy of your own record and only the Utah criminal history files will be checked. For information regarding national criminal history checks contact the Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification at http://bci.utah.gov.

Letter of Good Conduct

The Police Department will provide a letter of good conduct to citizens of Layton City free of charge, provided there is no record at the Layton Police Department of a criminal conviction. These letters are generally used for individuals wishing to obtain a Visa for international travel.
