LAYTON — Ever wonder how you might react in the event of a community emergency or an area disaster? Wonder no more by taking CERT classes and being prepared.

CERT is a nationwide program that educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area. There are 68 CERT teams in Utah alone.

Classes offered by the City prepare residents for different types of disasters most vulnerable to Utahns, and how to effectively respond to them. Training topics include: fire suppression, disaster first aid, urban search and rescue, disaster psychology and terrorism. The final class is a hands-on exercise where learned skills are practiced.

These classes are usually offered one night a week for eight weeks throughout the year. The cost for the series is $10 per person, which covers a training manual and supplies. Space is limited, so please contact Karen Vanfleet at (801) 336-3820.
