Spring cleaning? Davis Landfill can help

LAYTON — Spring cleaning? The Davis Landfill can help, allowing truckloads of acceptable green waste, open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (closed Sunday). Your spring green waste can be chipped and composted into recycled, reusable and beneficial mulch, wood chips and compost.

For hazardous waste, like paint, oil and pesticides, a drop-off for these materials is also available at the landfill.

Recycled green waste, compost and wood chip products are available in three sizes at $5 per yard. Compost is available for $20 per yard.

Important things to remember.

The following waste items are NOT accepted for dumping:
* Sod, root balls, and dirt
* Rocks
* Painted, stained, and pressure treated lumber
* Treated wood
* Plywood
* Particle board
* Siding
* Pieces longer than 8' and/or 12" in diameter

Acceptable recyclable green waste for composting and chipping includes:
* Leaves
* Tree and shrub trimmings
* Wood pallets
* Clean lumber
* Manure
* Sawdust
* Chipped limbs

The household hazardous waste facility accepts E-waste (computer monitors, hard drives, televisions, stereo equipment, copy machines, faxes, cell phones, electronic games, etc.), paint, varnish, pesticides, lawn care products, aerosols, paint thinner, antifreeze, motor oil, diesel, gasoline, cleaning items, automotive products, lead acid batteries, etc. in household quantities.

These items are NOT accepted:
* Commercial hazardous waste
* Radioactive materials
* Bio-hazardous waste
* Explosives

Household hazardous waste is accepted in containers no larger than 5 gallons, and no more than 20 gallons of any one item may be dropped off for disposal or reuse, per visit. There is no charge to drop off household hazardous waste.

Hazardous waste accepted items include:
* Paint
* Paint thinner
* Stain
* Household cleaners
* Batteries (lead acid)
* Pesticides
* Fertilizers
* Oil
* Antifreeze
* Automotive products
* Propane tanks
* Gasoline
* Kerosene
* Diesel fuel

Recycling? Wasatch Integrated has also placed recycle bins in a number of cities throughout Davis and Morgan counties. Two recycle bins are located at the landfill, directly outside the gates of the facility.

Items accepted are:
* Numbers 1 and 2 plastic
* Cardboard (flattened)
* Steel cans
* Aluminum cans
* Newspaper
* Phonebooks
* Magazines
