Remember to stop for school buses and to slow down in school zones

More Layton students will be in school as summer comes to an end and drivers are reminded to not only slow down in active school zones to 20 mph, but also to watch for school buses.
If when driving you come across a school bus with alternating flashing red light signals, you should stop. That's the law.
And, this includes vehicles coming from the opposite direction of a bus with flashing red lights.
This law helps protect students on roadways.
According to the Utah Code — The penalty for violation of not stopping for a school bus is a class C misdemeanor and the minimum fine is: $100 for a first offense; $200 for a second offense within three years of a previous conviction or bail forfeiture; and $500 for a third or subsequent offense within three years of a previous conviction or bail forfeiture ("Bail forfeiture" means that you simply paid the fine for a traffic ticket
