Remember to Winterize your Sprinkler System

Article Published 09/22/2014

With the fall season arriving, it is important for residents to make sure that all outdoor irrigation systems are winterized before the end of October to prevent freezing within the system.
Frozen lines can be costly and difficult to repair; they also can flood homes and property.
A few simple tips to avoid damage are to close the mainline shutoff valve, make sure that all drain off valves are open and use an air compressor to blow out any remaining water from the lines.
Residents may want to consider hiring a professional to properly complete this task.  Be sure to disconnect all outside hose spigots that are connected to the home.  It’s also important that residents that use secondary water still winterize their systems’ to avoid these types of problems.
