Mayor Steve Curtis

Biography

Steve Curtis' involvement with his community has been an integral part of his life. A resident of Layton for 32 years he has been intertwined in a “you name it – he’s been there” scenario. Half of those years has been spent as an elected official, serving 10 as a City Council-member, and now as a second term Mayor. Contributions of other civic service include being a member of the Utah Defense Alliance, the Utah Transit Authority General Manager's “Kitchen Cabinet” and as a former member of its Board of Trustees. He is a previous President and a Board member of the Utah League of Cities and Towns and currently occupies seats on the Executive Committee of the Economic Development Corporation of Utah and Wasatch Integrated Waste Management District Boards of Directors. Steve is a proven advocate of those he has represented and you will find him to be as approachable as any close friend.

Born in Salt Lake City and raised primarily in Ogden, Steve was the fourth of seven children in a family where the needs of others were strongly knotted in his upbringing. He and his wife are the proud parents of 3 young men, 2 young women, and are blessed with 2 grandchildren.

After attending Weber State and Brigham Young Universities, Steve started a career in communications that spanned over 29 years. Beginning with what was then known as Mountain Bell and evolving into what we now know as Century Link, Steve established his professional foundation with dedication as a Service and Public Telephone Technician, worked in supervision, and managed an Olympic Venue during the 2002 Winter Games. His profession has also brought him opportunities as a business consultant, a banking officer, an account executive in retail sales and presently as a Consultant on Government Affairs.

"To be the best that you can be, you must dream of being more", is a motto to which his family strictly adheres. It is Steve’s belief that the future will not be created by chance, but by choice; it is not a thing waited for, but a thing to be achieved. This is his foundation and main drive as a public servant.
