Hunter Safety
The Utah Hunter Education Course is a minimum of 10 hours in length. Most classes run 12-14 hours. Students must attend all sessions of the class to pass. Most courses require that youngsters under the age of 14 attend with a participating adult.
The course includes instruction in: hunter responsibility, firearms and ammunition, firearm handling and safety, marksmanship and shooting fundamentals, principles of wildlife management, bowhunting, muzzleloader hunting, safety and first aid, water safety, and Utah legal requirements.
In order to pass the course, students must pass a 50 question multiple choice test with a grade of 76%, demonstrate to the instructor that he or she can safely handle a firearm through practical exercises and participate in live firing. Students must also be recommended by the instructor to obtain certification by demonstrating responsibility and the maturity to be a safe, responsible and ethical hunter.

Class Dates & Times
Class will be held every Thursday and Friday from 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM. Shooting range will be on May 24, 2008.
Class Location
Classes will be held downstairs in the Layton City Center building (437 N Wasatch Dr) in the Employee Breakroom and Training Room.
How to register
Step 1 ------- Pay $10.00 at any location where hunting and fishing licenses are sold. When you sign up at a license agent, you will be given a voucher to bring with you to class
Step 2 ------- Pay $2.00 at Layton City Park and Recreation Office. You must pre-register for a specific class. Attendance at all class dates listed in a given block is required.
Step 3 ------- Attend class. Students must bring receipt for Layton City and voucher from the State of Utah to class.
**** Please Note: If you are not registered with Layton City Parks and Recreation, you are not signed up for the classes taught at Layton City Offices.
