Heritage Museum 35th Anniversary

On July 4, 2014 the Heritage Museum of Layton will celebrate its 35th anniversary of continuous operation.  In 1972, a group of Layton citizens decided to build a museum to house the cultural treasures of the city.  The group formed a 501c3 non-profit organization under the name of the Pioneer Museum.  Under the umbrella of the 501c3 organization, the group gathered artifacts, raised money for a museum, drew up plans for a museum and built a museum building in Layton Commons Park.  When the building was dedicated on July 4, 1979 to was turned over to the City of Layton as a permanent museum home.  For the past 35 years, the museum has been expanding its historical collection and had mounted numerous local and national traveling exhibits for the benefit of Layton citizens.  Currently, the museum has 2,470 artifact objects; 2,900 archival documents and books and 3,770 historical photographs.  Last year over 8,600 visitors toured the museum.
Come see us on July 4, 2014 for our special anniversary celebration!
