<idPurp>The Road Centerline feature class originated from existing CAD data prior to 2010. The CAD data was converted to ESRI format during 2010. The geometry of each line follows a "from-to" direction based on the local addressing grid. This also creates a proper "left-right" side of each line which is then correlated to addressing parity and (in some cases) city boundaries. Road names are assigned in the attribute data based on local road signs and local usage. This standard is utilized to best accommodate emergency response situations. Secondary, or alternate, road names are included in the attribute data when such names are shown in smaller print on road signs, on plats, or other means of local use. When more than one alternate name is known, the alternate names are separated in the attribute data by an ampersand (&amp;). The Road Class attribute field identifies a given segment as Interstate, US Highway, State Highway, Arterial, Collector, Local, Private, Driveway, or other. The address range fields contain the beginning and ending address ranges on both left and right sides of each segment. Ranges for a given segment normally begin with numbers ending in a zero or one ("from" values), and end with numbers ending with an eight or nine ("to" values). However, this is an intentionally loose standard and is often deviated from to accommodate actual addresses adjacent to a given segment--the intent being to best support emergency response situations. The resulting style of assigning ranges to a road segment has become known within the Davis GIS as a "hybrid" method.
