Snow ordinances within Layton City

LAYTON — Brrr! The snow has finally hit this year, and with it the City would like to remind residents of important ordinances regarding snow removal. Compliance to these ordinances provides a safer environment for motorists, pedestrians and helps workers with city street snow removal.

Layton City Ordinance 12.04.050 states all accumulations of snow, sleet, hail or other precipitation shall be removed from the sidewalks within 12 hours from the termination of the storm. Compliance with this ordinance provides a safe walking environment.

By keeping trees and bushes cut and maintained in compliance with Layton City Ordinance 19.16.080(d) City work trucks are able to better clear snow from city streets. The ordinance states trees and bushes must be cut and maintained 7 feet above the sidewalk and 13 feet 6 inches above the street. This includes trees and/or bushes in the parking strip. Residents are also advised not to deposit snow onto a city street. This ordinance is covered under 12.04.060.

Parking can also be problem during the winter months. Layton City Ordinance 10.62.010 prohibits parking on the street between the hours of 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. during the months of December, January and February, or any other time when the removal of snow from the streets is apparent, imminent or necessary.

It is the desire of Layton Police Department to work in conjunction with all citizens to make our community a safer place to live and work. By working together we can prevent citizens from being exposed to unhealthy or unsafe conditions. Snow removal tip

Here’s a helpful tip: When removing snow from your driveway approach and mailbox area, place the snow to the left side of the approach (when facing the home.)

Roads are plowed in the direction of traffic flow. This will reduce the probability of the same windrow blocking your access area.
