Davis Canal customers -- Cutback and water only 2 days a week

The Davis and Weber Counties Canal Company, which serves approximately 1,000 secondary water customers in Layton City, has created a special watering schedule this year, because of reservoir shortages.
City residents, who are supplied by the company, should water only 20 to 30 minutes per station, between 6 p.m. and 10 a.m., on just two days a week, according to house number.
Those customers with house numbers ending in 0, 1, 2, or 3 should water only on Mondays and Thursdays.
Those with house numbers ending in 4, 5, or 6 should water only on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Customers with house numbers ending in 7, 8, or 9 should water only on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
No one should be watering on Sundays, a catch up day for reservoir supplies.
“It’s looking pretty bleak,” Ivan Ray, manager of the Davis and Weber Counties Canal Company, told the Layton City Council on May 2.
He expects the two reservoirs the company manages, East Canyon and Echo, to be lucky to reach the 75 percent full level this spring.
As such, Ray said water availability will be 25 to 40 percent less than normal for its customers.
“We are going to be more vigilant in policing,” he said, explaining the first offense is a warning, while the second will be a lock down, as well as a fine to get the water back on.
Ray said those with new sod or grass seed will need to call the company, to be granted an exception in the watering schedule.
If conservation goals are not met, the company could run out of water by early to mid-summer.
The canal company is trying to treat all its customers the same, farmers and residences.
