Barry T Flitton

Barry has served one term on the Layton City Council. An example of some of the responsibilities that have been his during his first term have been; liaison to the Planning Commission, Layton Youth Court, Chairman of the Executive Committee for Communities That Care. Liaison to the Davis County Chamber of Commerce, and on the Legislative Affairs Committee and serves on the Board of Directors for UTOPIA.

Barry retired from Farm Bureau Financial Services where he served as Vice President of Information Technology. He now works at Weber State University, in Career Services, as Internship Development Coordinator. This, along with many other experiences, has helped him understand the challenges we face as a city in economic development for the future.

Barry has lived in Layton all of his married life, has watched the city grow from 12,000 to almost 70,000 people. He has four children and 19 grandchildren, all having graduated from Davis County schools.

In his first term on the City Council, Barry has become passionate about serving the people of Layton, especially the youth, and in advocating for the development of future youth programs. "Proper planning for the inevitable growth of Layton is high on the list of important issues facing us, and we need to take it very seriously". "Because growth in Layton is one of the main issues facing the new generation, we must focus on residential planning, while controlling the number of apartment complexes to a reasonable percentage of total population".

Barry is very much aware of the rights of the property owners and how those rights can be violated or orchestrated to the benefit of the landowner and to the community.

"This is our community, this is where we live and shop and play. I am proud to say I live in Layton. I will do all I can to make Layton even better for our future". "Working in harmony with other council members, the Mayor and city staff is imperative in moving forward."
