Ryan Eckhardt
Biography
Layton Fire Department is committed to having the highest trained firefighters and EMT’s/Paramedics in Utah. To achieve this goal the department has promoted a full-time training officer, Ryan Eckardt, the administrative battalion chief assigned to training. Since becoming the training officer Ryan has helped the department achieve a level of training that has not been reached by any other department in the state. The Utah Fire and Rescue Academy recently recognized Layton Fire as being the only department to achieve full departmental certification in Firefigher I, Firefigher II, Wildland Firefighter I, HazMat Awareness, HazMat Operations, Advanced Driver Operator (ADO) and Fire Officer I.
Ryan’s job as training officer is to oversee all department training. Several of the captains have been assigned functions that include developing training specific to EMS, HazMat, rescue, wildland, etc. Ryan assists these captains to insure that the training meets all necessary certification or recertification requirements. Ryan maintains a training record for ever member of the department. Should you ever need to review your training records contact him.
Ryan is also in charge of the department’s fire academy. The fire academy was designed to train men and women who are hoping to begin a career in the fire service. The academy is four months long and is held two nights a week and on Saturdays. During the academy, the “candidates” will receive instruction in basic firefighting, hazardous materials and wildland. Upon graduating from the academy each participant will receive certification from the Utah Fire and Rescue Academy as a Firefighter I, Firefighter II, HazMat Awareness, HazMat Operations, and Wildland Firefighter I. This will equip each firefighter with the skills and knowledge necessary to pursue his/her career in the fire service.
