Jared Sholly
Biography
Jared Sholly began his Fire Service career in 1993, with Layton City Fire Department.
Since then he has promoted through the ranks of Firefighter, Driver Operator, Captain
and now Battalion Chief. Jared worked has a Paramedic in the department since 2000,
and was part of the initial paramedic program for the Layton City Fire Department.
Jared’s job as training officer is to oversee all department training as well as life
safety for all fire fighters. Several of the Captains have been assigned functions that
include developing training specific to EMS, HazMat, Rescue, Wild Land, etc. Jared
assists these Captains to insure that the training meets all necessary certification
or recertification requirements. Jared maintains a training record for every member of
the department. He responds to all fires and large scale incidents to help fulfill the
command staff roles as the incident directs. One of his primary roles is to fill, is
the role of Safety Officer.
Jared is in charge of the Fire Academy and EMS programs at Davis Applied Technology
College. The programs are designed to train men and women who are hoping to begin a
career in the fire service. During the program, the students can receive instruction
in Emergency Medical Technician, Emergency Medical Technician Intermediate, basic fire
fighting, hazardous materials and wild land fire fighting. Upon graduating from the
academy each participant will receive certification from the Utah Fire and Rescue Academy
as a Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Hazardous Materials Awareness, and Hazardous Materials
Operations. They can also get certification from the State of Utah for EMT-B and EMT-I.
These programs will equip each firefighter with the skills and knowledge necessary to
pursue his/her career in the fire service.
