Eligibility for Police Officer Promotions
Police Officers I and II who become eligible for career ladder promotions may receive those promotions after successfully completing length of service requirements, whether at Layton City or another similar police agency as determined by the Police Chief.
The Police Chief has the right to deny a career ladder promotion to any employee if the Chief determines the employee's performance is not at a level sufficient to warrant a promotion.
At the time a Police Officer I or II meets all the requirements for a career ladder promotion, he/she must give written notice to the City. The City shall not be responsible for any loss of pay due to the employee's failure to give written notice. Said notice must be delivered to the Police Chief.
Eligibility for promotion will be officially verified by the HR Division
Promotions should be scheduled to take effect on the first day of a pay period.
