Chief Terry M. Keefe

Biography

Chief Terry Keefe is a thirty-two year veteran of law enforcement, having started his law enforcement career in 1974 with the Clearfield City Police Department. After six years of law enforcement in the Davis County area, he joined the West Valley City Police Department in 1980. During his career with West Valley City Police Department, Chief Keefe served in every division of the Department, including several years as commander of the S.W.A.T. Team, as well as assuming command of the Salt Lake Metro Major Felony Unit, an under-cover stolen property sting operation and the Salt Lake Metro Narcotics Task Force. Chief Keefe developed and was instrumental in combining the Metro Narcotics Task Force with the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Salt Lake Office and was appointed Deputy Director of the Combined Enforcement Units. During his tenure with West Valley City Police, Chief Keefe progressed through the ranks and was appointed Chief of Police in 1998. He retired from the West Valley City Police Department in 1999 and returned to his hometown of Layton where he was appointed to his current position of Chief of Police for Layton City.

Chief Keefe is a graduate of session 50 of the Utah Police Academy and was class valedictorian, a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the DEA Narcotics Unit, Commander Academy and a graduate of Weber State College with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He currently serves as the President of the Utah Chiefs of Police Association.

He and his wife Jann reside in Layton and have four children and four grandchildren.
