Police department Citizen's Academy begins in March
If you've ever had the desire to learn more about police procedure or get an overview of the City's department and services, the Layton Police Department Citizen's Academy may be just what you’re looking for.
With 2009 marking its sixth year, the Citizen's Academy will begin March 4 and run for 13 weeks. Sessions will be held each Wednesday night from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and graduating members of the Citizen's Academy will be recognized at the first City Council meeting following the final Academy class.
One of the main goals of the Citizen's Academy is to continue to build upon the strong relationship that currently exists between the community and the Police Department. Citizen Academy participants will receive instruction on basic police procedures, legal procedure and criminal code, and a good overview of all the departments and services within the Police Department.
Potential candidates must meet the following criteria:
• Minimum age of 18 years.
• Never been convicted of a felony.
• Must be able to attend all weekly training sessions.
• Must submit to a criminal background check.
An application for the Citizen's Academy can be found at www.laytoncity.org/downloads/police/citizensacademy/CA_Application.pdf.
Applications are due by February 18, 2009.
