Sexual Assault Awareness Event

Article Published 03/03/2011

The Davis County Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), in recognition of April’s Sexual Assault Awareness Month, will be hosting an awareness night aimed at giving parents knowledge to better combat “teen sexting” and sexual violence with our youth.

SART is a collaborative group comprised of representatives from law enforcement, Davis County Attorney’s Office, Adult Probation and Parole, Safe Harbor, Northern Utah Sexual Assault Nurses Examiners and Lakeview Hospital. Our mission is to not only improve the process for investigating sexual assaults, but to reduce sexual violence through education. The Utah Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice completed a study which found that Utah’s violent crime rate was approximately half the national rate in all areas except rape, which was 18% higher. Though this statistic is alarming, SART’s goal for the parent awareness night is not to strike fear in the community. By raising awareness of sexual violence and sexting and providing risk reduction tactics, SART hopes to empower parents with knowledge that will promote an environment where the youth will be safer in their relationships, families, schools and extracurricular activities.

For convenience, two presentations will be provided:

  • Thursday April 14, 2011 7pm to 9pm
    Bountiful City Hall

  • Thursday April 21, 2011 7pm to 9pm
