Tips for watching Layton's Liberty Days Parade

Article Published 07/02/2014
The annual Layton City Liberty Days parade will be Friday, July 4, 10:30 a.m.
Note that the staging area for the parade, between Fairfield Road and Chapel Street on Gentile Street will be closed at 9 a.m.
The parade route will be closed to traffic at 10:15 a.m.
To make the parade safer and more enjoyable, here are some things to DO and some things NOT to do at the parade, from the Layton City Parks and Recreation Department:
Do:
-Come early to get a good spot.
-Since most parking will be in neighborhoods, please don’t block drive ways and expect some walking.
-Watch small children at all times. A piece of candy is not worth an accident
DON’T:
-Squirt parade entrants.
-No handing out anything on the parade route.
-No TARPS should be used to save places, since it kills the grass.
-Stay on the curb area, to increase safety.
Here are some additional tips from the Layton City Police Department to make your parade experience safe and enjoyable:
1. Know where you are going before you get there.  Arrive early.  Be aware of the entire parade route and choose a good viewing location
2. Avoid setting up at locations such as corners and intersections where pedestrian traffic may interfere with your view.
3. Bring something to entertain young children while waiting for the parade to start.  Playing on the parade route is prohibited and unsafe.
4. If a child gets lost, go to the police command post located on the Southwest corner of the Layton High parking lot.  Officers will be there to assist.  If you find a lost child, take them there.
5. Bring water and sunscreen. Much of the parade route has no shade.
6. Parking along the parade route is prohibited.  If you live close to the parade route, walking is recommended.  There will be parking in the East and West parking lots of Layton High and the old Fort Lane Shopping Center.  If you park at the High School, you will not be allowed to leave until the parade is over and the roads have been re-opened. If you park at the old Fort Lane Shopping Center, you may exit on the east side and go South on Fort Lane during the parade.
7. Pets are not allowed in the parks which are along portions of the parade route.
8. There are barricades along the parade route. Do not pass the barricades and sit, walk, or cross on the parade route.  When the parade is over, do not enter the parade route and follow the parade.
9. Porta potties will be located in the vendor area on the West side of Constitution Circle near the police department and courts.
-The Layton Police/Fire non-emergency number is 801-497-8300.
