The Layton Police K9 Unit is comprised of two handler/dog teams.

Officer Luna and his police service dog, Reagan have served the citizens of Layton City since August of 2023. Reagan is an accomplished narcotic detection and tracking dog who has been in service since 2019.

Officer Whitton and his police service dog, Greta have served the citizens of Layton City since August of 2023. Greta is a Drathaar German pointer and is highly skilled in narcotic detection and tracking.

Based upon the needs of Layton City, Greta and Reagan are both single-purpose hunting breeds. Labradors and pointers are versatile breeds known to be social, friendly, loyal, and intelligent. Their gentle, eager-to-please temperament makes them exceptional dogs to train and utilize for detection work and tracking. In addition to their superior odor detection, Greta and Reagan are high-energy dogs that can and will work for hours, asking for very little in return. Due to these strengths and abilities, Greta, Reagan, and their human partners, are a valuable asset for the city and an example of the police department’s varied resources in providing quality services in the community.
