Internships
                    The Layton City Police Department offers internship opportunities to those college students that are currently enrolled
                    in a forensic science program. Responsibilities of interns include responding to crime scenes, providing support for
                    crime scene investigators, assisting the evidence technician with daily responsibilities, assisting with weekly public
                    fingerprinting services and any other appropriate forensic or evidence related duties as assigned.  All applicants are
                    subject to an interview and thorough background investigation. For questions or additional information please contact

            Claiming Property
                    Property is released by appointment only and requires the presentation of a valid identification. For additional information 
                    or to make an appointment, please call (801) 336-3553 
                    Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
                
                Property for Safekeep
                    Items held as safekeep will be held for 90 days after which the items will be disposed of in compliance with existing State laws.
                
                Evidence
                    Items held as evidence may only be released upon authorization from the prosecuting attorney or the responsible officer. All 
                    property not held for evidence in a pending criminal investigation or proceeding, and held for six months or longer where the 
                    owner has not been located or fails to claim the property, may be disposed of in compliance with existing State laws.
                
                Firearm Releases
                    The release of firearms will require an appointment with evidence personnel during regular business hours. A Brady Check must 
                    be performed on the identified lawful owner within 72 hours of the designated appointment time. If an appointment is missed, a 
                    2nd Brady Check cannot be performed for an additional 30 days. After 90 days or three missed appointments, the firearm will be 
                    considered abandoned and will be destroyed. All firearm releases must be reviewed by the Layton City Attorney’s Office for 
                    final approval.
                
            Property Auctions
                    Legally seized, found, and unclaimed property is sent to PropertyRoom.com. 
                    PropertyRoom.com is an online auction site open for bidding to the general public. They auction all abandoned, stolen, lawfully 
                    seized, or unclaimed property of every kind from law enforcement agencies nationwide. The website is available 24 hours a day, 
                    7 days a week.
