SR-232 (Hillfield Road) Construction - 1425 North to SR-193

Article Published 08/15/2016

Project Update

Work on the SR-232 pavement rehabilitation project in Layton has resumed. We appreciate the patience of area residents and businesses as we have worked with the contractor to reconcile the issues that prompted us to stop operations in late July. During the pavement removal process, the project team identified concerns with the roadway substructure. Over the past weeks we have analyzed this problem and how to resolve it, and have made the appropriate adjustments that allow us to resume work.

In order to provide a quality final project, there are steps that must be taken prior to the placement of the new concrete. On August 11 and August 12, crews will be on-site placing a layer of asphalt that will stabilize and support the new concrete. On August 17, crews will use a grinding machine to smooth out the surface of the newly placed asphalt. Once that work is complete, crews will prepare the area for concrete placement. Placement is anticipated to begin the evening of August 24. All concrete will be placed during nighttime hours. Please see the back of this flier for additional details on these steps.

School Coordination

The project team, school officials and school district officials continue to meet to determine a safe and workable solution for pedestrian and vehicle traffic on SR-232 and school property. We continue to work together toward a solution and will update parents and students as soon as we have the plan finalized.

We encourage students to ride the bus, arrive early and stay at school during the lunch hour to avoid congestion in the work zone. Additionally, we ask drivers to use alternate routes and carpool to help reduce delays.
