Change in Paramedic Funding

Article Published 07/14/2021

You may have seen, or soon will, a notice of a tax increase. For Layton City residents the tax change will be neutral. How? It’s simply a process change. Next year, the Davis County Sheriff's Office will turn responsibility for paramedic services over to the cities in the county. Which means the paramedic levy will be removed from the County's property tax assessment and added to the City's. Again, this will not result in a tax increase for Layton City residents, as the City already provides paramedic service, and a portion of the paramedic levy collected by the county was passed through to the City. Using that same formula, those funds will now be collected directly by the City. The same amount formerly collected by the county will simply be added into the City’s portion of your property taxes. Layton City’s citizens should be confident this transition will not impact our professional and prompt level of service, and will result in improving the level of service county-wide.
