Dean Hunt

Biography

Dean Hunt is the fire marshal for Layton City Fire Department. He understands just how important fire prevention is in protecting lives and property and has been aggressively promoting fire and life safety since coming to Layton Fire from the State Fire Marshals Office. Unlike all other operations of the fire department, the fire prevention office is located in the city office building. This is because the Fire Marshal interacts with so many other city departments. Fire prevention activities include; delivering all fire and life safety programs, plans reviews, business inspections, fire code enforcement, and fire/arson investigation. Every year in October, during National Fire Safety Week, Fire Marshal Hunt coordinates the Kendal O. Bryant Memorial Fire Prevention Open House. In memoriam of fallen firefighter Kendal Bryant, this open house celebrates fire and life safety at home, play, and at work. We have live fire and extrication demos, apparatus and medical helicopter displays and rides, and fun interactive activities for adults and children that highlight the importance of fire prevention. Another very popular fire prevention activity is the elementary school fire and life safety program. Every year the prevention department delivers an entertaining program designed to teach elementary school children of all ages how to be fire wise in the home. Uniformed firefighters and “Flashrover” the fire dog, teach children not to play with matches, how to crawl low in smoke, the importance of home fire drills, and injury prevention techniques to keep children safe.

Teaching fire prevention and life safety is everyone’s responsibility, not just the Fire Marshal. Dean relies heavily on the members of the department to teach our citizens the importance of life safety. As a new employee we hope you will seize the opportunity to be a part of fire prevention!
