Machine Pitch is also an introduction to live games where score is kept, outs are recorded, and league standings are tabulated. League runs May through the end of June. Participants in 1st grade who intend on playing machine pitch should be able to throw accurately, play catch, field ground balls routinely, and hit off of a pitching machine. The pitching machine in this league will be set between 35 to 38 feet from home plate and pitches will be traveling from 35 to 38 MPH. Registered participants are placed on teams as closely as possible, by their school boundaries. Carpool, friend, and coach request will not be honored. The K-3rd Grade Jr Jazz program is an instructional basketball program for boys in kindergarten through 3rd grade. Program registration includes reversible jersey and Utah Jazz game ticket. Kindergarten and 1st grade play a clinic style program with 30 minute practice followed by 30 minute game on Saturdays. The 2nd and 3rd grade leagues include a mid-week practice and Saturday game. Ball size is 28.5 (women’s). Games are played at Legacy Jr High or Central Davis Jr High. Registered participants are placed on teams according to the school they attend whenever possible. Carpool, friend, and coach requests will not be honored. Volunteer coaches are needed.

The Layton City Youth Cross Country program is a fitness program for youth interested in and excited about running. The Cross Country program is designed to introduce youth 9-18 years old to cross country and distance running in a fun, safe and controlled environment. A typical training session will include general introduction, overview of cross-country principles, warm-up, stretching, group run and exercises, followed by a cool down period.

Spock’s Skate Camp is for boys and girls 6-14 years old. All skill levels are welcome. Program focuses on skatepark etiquette and safety as well as learning fundamental skateboard skills in a controlled and safe environment. Helmet, elbow, and knee pads are required. Classes are held on Wednesdays from 9:00am – 11:00am. Sessions are available in June, July, and August.

Recreation softball program for girls currently in 5th and 6th grade. The purpose of the Major League program is for 5th/6th grade girls to continue to learn basic fundamental baseball skills, teamwork, exercise, socialize with other children, and have fun. Major League is a continued introduction to live games where score is kept, outs are recorded, and league standings are tabulated. There will be a single-elimination league tournament at the conclusion of the regular season. Registered participants are placed on teams as closely as possible, by their school boundaries. Carpool, friend, and coach request will not be honored. • The Major League division will play on Tuesday & Thursday evenings at Starkey Field or Chapel. Competition softball league for girls competitive 10U, 12U, and 14U softball teams. Teams must be ASA registered. Eight game guarantee which includes season play and single elimination tournament.
Tackle Football

Recreation tackle football program for boys and girls ages 7 to 15 years old (up to 9th grade). Layton City is a member of the Wasatch Front Football League (WFFL) and follows all WFFL league rules and bylaws. Practices begin in late July or early August. Practices are one and half hours a night, five days a week. Games begin mid-August. Games are played on Saturdays at locations along the Wasatch Front from Smithfield to Farmington. After games begin, practices are limited to one and half hours a night, four days a week. Program consists of seven league games and playoffs. The youngest division (Jr Mite) does not participate in playoffs. Participants are drafted onto teams by coaches during the first week of practices. Carpool, friend and coach requests will not be honored.
